ENDORSEMENT GUIDELINES

All Schools

As members of a 501c3 organization (both the CDSP and its individual PTO’s), we cannot make a statement or otherwise support candidates for public office, including financially.

Individuals who are members of CDSP/PTOs may support individual candidates, but it should be clear the endorsement is from an individual, not from an organization (i.e. no organizational role should be mentioned). CDSP can make a public statement as an organization, but that requires a vote and also should not be a substantial part of [our] activities.

See excerpt from the CDSP by-laws below.

…No substantial part of the activities of the CDSP shall be the carrying on of propaganda, or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, and the CDSP shall not participate in, or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office. Notwithstanding any other provision, these activities are not permitted to be carried on by an organization exempt from federal income tax under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Code, or by an organization, contributions to which are deductible under Section 170 (c) (2) of the Code.
